# A store that reads the forecast.

Barometer General is a store we made up. Its homepage changes with the weather where you are: the banner, the hero, the featured collection and the order of every product. Try each kind of weather below.

We guess your city from your time zone, so there's no location prompt. The one request that leaves your browser goes to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, with that city's coordinates.

## What Barometer General shows for each kind of weather

- **Rain**: "Stay dry out there." Umbrellas that survive a gust, boots that keep your socks dry and a shell that packs into its own pocket. Featured: The rain edit. Banner: Rain in your forecast. Rain gear ships free through Sunday.
- **Heat**: "Keep your cool." Quiet fans, bottles that hold ice all day and a hat that actually shades your neck. Featured: The heat wave edit. Banner: It's a hot one. Fans and coolers ship free today.
- **Snow**: "Bring on the snow." Down that packs small, boots with real grip and hand warmers by the box. Featured: The snow day edit. Banner: Snow in your forecast. Warm layers ship free this week.
- **Clear**: "Get outside today." Clear skies, so the picnic blanket, the kite and the good sunglasses go up front. Featured: The fair weather edit. Banner: Clear skies all day. Picnic gear is 10% off until sundown.
- **Wind**: "Hold on to your hat." Windproof layers, an umbrella built to flex instead of flip, and a kite for the brave. Featured: The windy day edit. Banner: Gusty out there. Windproof layers ship free today.

## The same thing on a real Shopify store.

This demo runs in your browser. On a live store we'd build it into the theme, so it's fast, safe to edit and easy to switch off.

1. **Find the shopper's weather.** The store already knows roughly where a shopper is: the country from Shopify Markets, and on a headless storefront the city, read at the edge. A small app looks up that area's forecast and caches it for everyone nearby, so pages stay fast and nobody sees a location prompt.
2. **Tag products once.** Each product gets a weather metafield with a weight for rain, heat, snow, clear and wind. Your team sets it in the Shopify admin, and the store skips anything that's out of stock.
3. **Let the theme swap sections.** The announcement bar, the hero and the featured collection are ordinary theme sections with one block per kind of weather. The theme shows the matching block and sorts the collection by weight. If the forecast doesn't load, shoppers see your regular homepage.
4. **Measure before you keep it.** We run it as an A/B test against the static homepage and compare click-through and revenue per visitor, by weather. It stays only if it earns its place.

The same pattern works on WordPress with WooCommerce: product tags in place of metafields, a block per weather in place of theme sections.
